The stars of cruise journalism were honoured at the third Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) UK & Ireland Cruise Journalism Awards tonight (24 March) at London's May Fair Hotel.

The ceremony, sponsored by Cruise Jamaica, was hosted by veteran BBC television presenter and cruise aficionado, Michael Buerk, and attended by travel journalists, bloggers and key members of the cruise trade.

Ten awards were presented including Best First Time Cruise Feature, Best River Cruise Feature and Best Social Media Cruise Contribution, which was a new category for this year’s awards. This category included online media articles and consumer engagement through social media channels as part of the judging criteria.

Journalists from The Lady, MailOnline, The Daily Telegraph, Hampshire Society Magazine, Harper’s Bazaar, World of Cruising, ITV Meridian News, Sticky Fingers Blog and Travel Weekly were celebrated for their work. The prestigious Contribution to Cruise Journalism Awar’ was awarded to Teresa Machan from The Daily Telegraph.

The awards were judged by a panel of experts led by Lynn Narraway, UK Managing Director of Holland America Line and Seabourn and Chair of the CLIA UK & Ireland UK PR Working Group.

Commenting on the awards, Lynn Narraway said: “This has been a fantastic year for cruise journalism with over 300 entries to the CLIA UK & Ireland Cruise Journalism Awards. The range of content from ocean to river cruise features across traditional and online media was of a very high standard and we are delighted to be able to honour the journalists who have shown such great support for the growing cruising industry.”
