Tight squeeze! Minerva passes through narrow Corinth Canal

Guests aboard Swan Hellenic’s small ship Minerva enjoy a close up view of the historic Corinth Canal as the ship narrowly passes through on a voyage around the Aegean Sea, Greece.

With only 350 passengers and an intimate country house ambience aboard, the small cruise ship is renowned for its off the beaten track itineraries and ability to go where other ships can’t.

Such as the Corinth Canal ... and you can see that there’s not a lot of room th spare.

The canal connects the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea, cutting through the narrow Isthmus of Corinth and separating the Peloponnesian peninsula from the Greek mainland.

The builders dug the canal through the Isthmus at sea level. It is four miles long and only 70 ft wide at its base, making it unpassable for most modern ships ... except Minerva of course.
