Unplugged: Midge Ure to perform three concerts on QM2 transatlantic cruise

Legendary musician Midge Ure is to perform three concerts and "tell the inside story of my strange and varied career" on Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 during a transatlantic crossing bound for New York in September.

Ure, frontman of the hugely successful group Ultravox, will stage “Midge Ure Unplugged in Concert” and also give a personal interview appearance.

The seven-night Atlantic crossing departs Southampton on 20 September, arriving in New York on 27 September.

Ure is famed for his leading contribution to the production of the Band Aid charity single Do They Know It’s Christmas? in 1984 and the staging of the world-famous Live Aid charity concert a year later.

He said: “I will be performing songs acoustically, spanning 35 years of my career including songs from Ultravox, Visage and solo. This is real and honest performance with nothing to hide behind. The speaking event will tell the inside story of my strange and varied career from the slums of Glasgow to producing Do They Know It’s Christmas? – one of the biggest-selling records in British musical history.”

Angus Struthers, Cunard director, added: “His appearances on Queen Mary 2 are certain to be a very popular highlight of her first, post-refit Transatlantic Season. We look forward to welcoming Midge on board.”
