Now Victoria is Queen of the Amazon
Cunard's Queen Victoria has made cruise history during her world voyage by becoming the largest passenger ship to sail the Amazon.
Her maiden journey on the Amazon earlier this month began as she left the dark Rio Negro bound for Manaus in Brazil - the sixth of 32 ports on Queen Victoria’s 41,000 nautical mile, 120-night cruise.

Captain Peter Philpott was at the helm as the ship arrived in Manaus. Passengers disembarked for excursions including a city tour to see sights including the Teatro Amazonas opera house and the municipal market. Others took a boat trip to the “Meeting of the Waters”, where the Rio Negro joins the Amazon.
“Queen Victoria’s maiden call in Manaus represents the type of innovation and uniqueness that guests have come to expect from Cunard,” said Josh Leibowitz, senior vice president of Cunard North America.
“Since it pioneered world cruising in 1922, Cunard has continued to offer guests itineraries that visit exciting destinations and that offer unique ‘firsts’.”
Queen Victoria left Southampton on 5 January 5 and will return on 5 May.
