Sailing in formation catches on as the three Queens convoy leaves Southampton

It seems the Qiuren's Diamond Jubilee has started something ... lots of ships sailing in line down a river.

First there was the jubilee pageant on the Thames to celebrate the Queen’s 60-year reign. The came P&O Crises 175th anniversary sailby out of Southampton.

And now, for the first time in daylight, the three Cunard queens - Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizav=beth and Queen Victoria -  exited Southampton opn Friday July 13, sailing down the Solent in close formation.

The ships left in single file down Southampton Water and zig-zagged through the Brambles turn into the Solent before heading off on their respective voyages.

Queen Elizabeth began a 14 night Baltic voyage, Queen Victoria headed for the Fjords on an 8 night trip and after her crossing from New York to Southampton, Queen Mary 2 set out on a 14-night Fjords and North Cape sailing.
