Princess widens smoking restrictions ... and will fine rule-breakers
Princess Cruises is to introduce more restrictive smoking policies next year, backed by fines for anyone caught flouting them.
From January , smoking will be banned in passenger staterooms and balconies.
In a statement issued today, Princess said: “Keeping with the global trend and honoring the wishes of our passengers, we feel this change will enhance our onboard experience and do more to help our passengers escape completely.”

The Churchill cigar lounge on Diamond Princess is one area where you will still be able to smoke
Princess will continue to provide smoking areas throughout each ship, including cigar lounges, a section of the nightclub and casino, and a portion of the open decks.
The statement continued: “The vast majority of cruisers value having their primary living spacesmoke-free.
“As you know, balconies are a hallmark of Princess Cruises, and we believe it is important to keep this peaceful space clear of smoke.
“Violations to this policy will result in a $250 fine for each occurrence, which will be charged to the passenger’s stateroom account.”

I think this is a great idea especially as we know the effects of smoking and passive smoking. I do believe people have the right to chose what they want to do however I also believe that they shouldn’t enforce their habit upon others by smoking around them. Well done Princess!
