Paul Merton starts his zany new adventures ... on Allure of the Seas

Zany comedian Paul Merton has kicked off a new series of his popular travel adventures by trying to get away from it all ... on the biggest ship at sea.

The first in his new series of Merton’s Adventures aired on Channel 5 last night in which the presenter embraces six very popular and varied holiday choices of the travelling British public.

Fans of Merton will remember his recent travel documentary series set in China and India. The first in the series, titled ‘On a Cruise’ was filmed on Royal Caribbean International’s Allure of the Seas, and Merton said: “I had some incredible experiences. For instance, I got off a cruise ship in Mexico and had the strangest time. First of all, I went diving on a famous reef and shook hands with a man underwater.

“Then I was driven for three hours to a deserted restaurant where a man called Pepe kept big cats. He introduced me to a baby tiger that bit me! So what are my impressions of Mexico? It was totally bizarre. But maybe that’s what Mexicans get up to all the time.”

Those who know Royal Caribbean who saw the programme will have will recognised some faces in the friends Merton makes onboard – from Captain Zini to the dry sense of humour of Scottish Sam in guest services.
