New era of Crystal beckons as steel cutting of four luxury river yachts begins

Construction of Crystal's four new luxury river vessels, Crystal Debussy, Crystal Ravel, Crystal Mahler and Crystal Bach, began at the Lloyd Werft shipyard in Germany in May, 2017.

In a significant next step in its luxury hospitality and lifestyle brand portfolio expansion, Edie Rodriguez, then the CEO of Crystal, presided over a shipyard steel cutting ceremony to get the production ball rolling.

The vessels, each boasting sleek designs along with the plush amenities for which Crystal ships are renowned, embarked on the rivers of Europe in summer 2017 with Crystal Bach leading the way in July and Crystal Mahler arriving just two months later.

“It was my honour to stand with the leaders of our wonderful parent company and the acclaimed Lloyd Werft Shipyard, and to enjoy the support of the local community leaders, as we continue the process of ushering in the new era of Crystal with Crystal River Cruises,” Ms Rodriguez said.

In the presence of Crystal parent company, Genting Hong Kong (GHK) chairman Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, she pressed the button that initiated the massive steel cutting machine to begin the river yachts’ construction.

Crystal’s ambition is to surpass current and planned river boats or ships, and be the first in the industry to feature exceptional amenities and itinerary highlights that include:

  • 250 sq-ft guest suites with walk-in wardrobes, American king size beds and bathrooms with double vanities
  • Two 500 sq-ft Penthouse Suites
  • Spacious public areas, including Palm Court with dance floor and glass domed roof and a well-appointed fitness center and spa
  • The four luxury river yachts represent part of Crystal’s entry into river cruising, as the line’s reimagined Crystal Mozart officially introduced the Crystal Experience when she embarked on the Danube River in July.
