Hull and high water - Naked HANSEATIC inspiration starts 4,000-mile voyage to 5-star transformation

Hapag-Lloyd Cruises' new expedition ship, HANSEATIC inspiration, has begun a 4,000-mile shipyard transfer in the next major step of its construction.

The hull is being moved from the VARD Group’s Romanian site in Tulcea to its Langsten shipyard in Norway, via Istanbul and Gibraltar, for the interior work to be undertaken.

Taking to the water for the first time on Saturday, (16 February), the hull, weighing 6,400 tons), was lowered into the water by a lifting platform in Tulcea in a three-hour operation.

The deep-sea tugboat Diavlos Force is now using a steel cable to tow the hull of the HANSEATIC inspiration on a journey lasting up to 28 days, depending on the weather.

The 230-guest vessel - being built for the German and international marketplaces - will be launched in the Belgian city of Antwerp on 13 October. It will join HANSEATIC nature, arriving in April, and HANSEATIC spirit. earmarked for 2021.

The new class of small, manoeuvrable expedition ships feature cutting-edge technology and have the highest ice class for passenger ships (PC6) plus state-of-the-art equipment to minimise the environmental impact.

Their routes will take them from cold polar waters to the warm regions of the Amazon.
