Hurtigruten broadens its horizons in Europe in 2012
Expedition cruise specialist Hurtigruten is offering guests the chance to enjoy a unique sailing experience outside of its traditional destinations on a host of special European voyages in 2012.
The one-off sailings on Hurtigruten’s expedition ship, MS Fram, will take place in the spring and autumn and incorporate some of Europe’s most beautiful cities.

MS Fram will sail sail six unique voyages in Europe in 2012
With six voyages to choose from on a ship with a relaxed and informal atmosphere, the schedule will include the south western coasts of Portugal, Spain and France, the eastern Baltic coastline and St Petersburg and will extend to the far north of Europe to Scotland, Iceland and Greenland.
There is also a spring voyage around Norway’s fjord area for those who would like to see a little more of this beautiful landscape.
However, for a truly different experience join MS Fram as she makes her way to Antarctica on an incredible 19-day transatlantic crossing from Las Palmas in Gran Canaria to Buenos Aires.
The Fram is relatively small and manoeuvrable, making it the ideal ship for voyages of this nature.
Fram expedition leader Anja Erdmann comments: “The fantastic thing is that our ship can usually dock directly in the city harbours. Guests can walk straight into town from the quayside, or simply hop on the shuttle bus for the short ride.
“But the expedition feel is an important feature of our European voyages too - on board we’ve got the Polarcirkel boats that we can use for landings, so we can also head for exceptional places like Sark in the Channel Islands, for example.”
In keeping with Hurtigruten tradition, guests can enjoy a series of interesting lectures about the history, culture and natural environment of the places visited. A varied programme of excursions is also available.
AUTUMN ADVENTURE VOYAGE - An eight-day Autumn Adventure voyage taking in Iceland, the Faroe Islands, Scotland and Norway costs from £1,090pp. Return flights from London Heathrow to Reykjavik and back from Bergen are extra but can be booked by Hurtigruten.
TRANSATLANTIC CROSSING - This is a completely different, cross-hemispheric offering from Hurtigruten and the first time it has been offered travelling south. This is the main leg of MS Fram’s winter repositioning journey from Las Palmas in the Canary Islands to Buenos Aires. With the famous Equator Baptism by King Neptune and his wife for those crossing the Equator for the first time and BBQ’s on deck this voyage is all about enjoying life on the ocean wave in a relaxed atmosphere with the ships crew. The 19-day voyage departs on October 14 and is priced from £1,615 pp full board, cruise only.
