Holland America becomes first major cruise line to call at Ilfracombe

Holland America will this summer become the first major cruise line to visit Ilfracombe in Devon when Rotterdam and Prinsendam drop anchor there.

Ilfracombe Harbour is the Jewel in the Crown of the North Devon Coast, and Destination South West has been striving for several years to secure its place on the cruise map.

Says Harbour Master Lt Cdr Rob Lawson: “We have been members of Destination South West for seven years now, during which time Ilfracombe has tried hard to find its place in the Cruise market and now all the hard work now seems to be paying off.

“With the ‘Hidden Edge’ of the Exmoor National Park on our doorstep and the highest sea cliffs in England rising to meet the moor, the harbour boasts a very dramatic setting.”

Destination South West spokesman Mike Reynolds added: “With strong worldwide competition to attract these calls it has taken some time to get a major line to call at the port. It is a great opportunity for North Devon to put itself on the international tourist map.
