Hapag-Lloyd Cruises celebrates start of construction of Hanseatic Inspiration

Construction of Hanseatic inspiration, the second, new-build expedition ship from Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, has begun with the steel cutting ceremony.

Karl Pojer, Hapag-Lloyd’s CEO, gave the official signal for the construction process to begin at the VARD shipyard in Romania on Thursday last week (5 October)

With its two, new expedition ships, HANSEATIC nature and HANSEATIC inspiration, both arriving in 2019, it is further developing its pioneering role in the expedition segment.

Pojer said: “The demand for expedition cruising is three times higher than supply and so with our two new builds we shall be ideally prepared for the future and also satisfy the international marketplace.

“Hapag-Lloyd Cruises is growing, which underlines the TUI Group’s strategy in the cruise segment. The Hanseatic inspiration will be marketed to an English-speaking audience.”

The contract for the two expedition ships was awarded to the Norwegian VARD Group, a subsidiary of the Italian shipbuilding company, Fincantieri. The ship’s hull will be built in Tulcea/Romania, before being transported to the VARD Langsten shipyard in Norway for the interior fitting.
