Princess Cruises kicks off its 50th Alaska season 


Princess Cruises’ 50th year sailing in Alaska is now under way following the arrival of Ruby Princess in America’s northernmost state. A further six ships will head to Alaska, marking the cruise line’s largest ever deployment to the region.
Several new initiatives introduced to mark the anniversary will be offered alongside Princess Cruises’ North to Alaska onboard programme, which includes ‘puppies in the piazza’ – when some of Alaska’s newest sled dogs and their handlers come aboard – and the ‘cook my catch’ fishing shore excursion.
Tony Roberts, Princess Cruises’ vice president UK and Europe, said: “We take more people than any other cruise line to Alaska and have hosted over 5 million guests during the last 50 years.”

Balmoral sets sail on record cruise season from Newcastle
image Fred Olsen Cruise Lines’ flagship, Balmoral, set sail from Newcastle on 21 April to begin a record cruise season that extends to June, when the ship will reposition to Edinburgh (Rosyth).
Says customer service director Clare Ward: “We are delighted that Balmoral will be operating a record 16 departures from Newcastle, demonstrating the very loyal customer base that we have built up in this popular North Eastern port since we started cruise departures on our flagship in 2016.”

Family affair as Kelly Arison to christen Carnival Sunrise

Kelly Arison To celebrate Carnival Sunrise’s debut following her $200m transformation, Kelly Arison, daughter of Carnival chairman Micky Arison, will christen the ship in New York on 23 May.
Her mother, Madeleine was godmother when the ship first entered service as Carnival Triumph in 1999, and Kelly’s grandmother, Lin Arison, served as godmother to Carnival Sunshine in 2013.
“It is truly an honour to carry on my family’s cherished tradition,” said Kelly.
Carnival Sunrise kicked off her inaugural season 29 April at Norfolk’s Decker Half Moone Cruise Center.

PGA champions including Tom Kite tee off for Crystal’s 2019 golf-themed cruises

image Three of America’s great golfing champions, including US Open winner Tom Kite, are set to sail aboard Crystal’s popular 2019 golf-themed cruises.
The line was recently awarded “Best Golf Cruises, Medium Ships” in the 2019 Golf Digest Editors’ Choices Awards.
The pros teeing up for are Dave Stockton (Crystal Serenity, 10 June sailing from Dover to Reykjavik);  Kite (Crystal Serenity, 12 August sailing from Lisbon to Monte Carlo); and Don Pooley (Crystal Symphony, 21 December sailing round trip from San Diego).

Princess Cruises 2021 world cruise is fastest-selling ever

image Princess Cruises’ 40,000-mile world cruise on Island Princess in 2021 became the fastest-selling in its history within 24 hours when it went on sale on 27 March.
The 111-day voyage which departs from either Fort Lauderdale on 3 January will visit 50 destinations in 32 countries, across six continents and costs from £17,639 per person.
Jan Swartz, Princess Cruises’ president, said: “This record-setting day further demonstrates that our guests value travel experiences to explore new places and cultures.”
