Oceania Cruises pulls the plug on plastic water bottles

image Oceania Cruises is set to eliminate an estimated three million plastic water bottles each year through a new partnership with Vero Water, the world leader in water distillation systems.
As part of its OceaniaNEXT initiative, the line’s ships will be fitted with Vero Water’s still and sparkling water systems by the middle of June, starting with Riviera on 2 April. Sister line Regent Seven Seas Cruises is also following suit in the spring.
Vero Water uses dishwasher-safe glass bottles which can be used over and over again.

Princess Cruises celebrates 50 years in Alaska

image Princess Cruises is marking 50 years of sailing in Alaska in 2019 with a range of shore excursions and themed onboard activities. Seven Princess ships will sail in Alaska from May to September, the largest deployment in the line’s history.
The shore excursions include whale watching by luxury yacht or interactive self-guided jeep tour in Juneau; a rainforest trail bike and hike in Ketchikan; a treetop flyover of Icy Strait Point via the 5,000ft long ZipRider cable ride, 1,330ft above sea level; a boat tour of the 122km Hubbard Glacier and surrounding wildlife.
Several entertainment and culinary initiatives will complement Princess’s existing ‘North to Alaska’ programme.

New sailings announced for Carnival Miracle’s inaugural 2020 schedule
image Following significant response to Carnival Cruise Line’s first-ever cruises from San Francisco, the line is adding five voyages from the port to Carnival Miracle’s previously announced inaugural schedule for 2020.
The ship is now offering a total of 27 voyages which include four-day long weekend sailings to Ensenada, Mexico, 10-day cruises to Alaska and 15- and 16-day voyages to Hawaii from March to September 2020. These newly added sailings are part of Carnival’s ongoing expansion in the West Coast.

Ponant ahead of the game in protecting the environmental
image When it comes to the environment, Ponant continues to set the pace, and since 1 January every vessel in its fleet has been using LS MGO (Low Sulphur Marine Gas Oil) on all routes and destinations.
The law requiring the use of fuels with a maximum sulphur content of 0.5 per cent does not come into force until 2020.
