After finding Scott’s Hut, now follow more foosteps in his race for the Pole

It has been frozen in time for more than a century, and adventurer Ben Fogle was this week seen on TV joining an expedition across Antarctica to find Captain Scott’s Hut.

Fogle was almost lost for words in the BBC documentary as he stepped into the cabin from which Scott launched his attempt in 1911 to be the first to the South Pole and from which he never returned.

106 Orion guests took the once-in-a-lifetime chance to visit Scott’s Hut in January

In January, 106 guests on Orion Expedition Cruises followed in Fogle’s footsteps and voyaged to Captain Scott’s hut - a perfectly preserved time capsule of Edwardian England with all the tins of provisions in place and personal items where Scott’s doomed team left them.

In January 2012, Orion Expedition Cruises will once again offer guests the opportunity to join a Scott & Shackleton voyage which will cover some of the polar regions famously charted during the first race to the South Pole.

The Ross Sea coast extends from the ice shelf northwards until it reaches the very tip of Victoria Land and Cape Adare. While in the Ross Sea Region a variety of landings we will be attempted subject to weather conditions.

Joining guests onboard Orion will be renowned scientist and media presenter Dr Karl Kruszelnicki will share his wealth of knowledge through a series of entertaining and witty talks.

Orion Expedition Cruises’ 20-night Scott & Shackleton’s Antarctica departs January 21 from Bluff, New Zealand, and visits Auckland Islands, Macquarie Island, the Ross Sea Region, Campbell Island and Snares Islands before arriving back into Bluff. From £14,625 per person.
