Costa Concordia
A ship that's full of innovation ...
Costa Concordia was the biggest Italian passenger ship ever built when she was christened on July 7, 2006, in Civitavecchia - the nearest port to Rome.
Costa Concordia has four swimming pools, two of which have retractable roofs for all weather cruising. The central pool is also surrounded by an elegant relaxation area extending over two decks.
The 290-metre long ship has 1,502 cabins, 571 of which (38 per cent) have balconies.
One of the main innovations was a stunning 1,900 sq m health and fitness area which extends over two decks and is one of the biggest ever on a cruise ship.
The centre, called the Samsara Spa, even has its own suites and cabins which are situated with direct access to the spa and are designed to compliment its oriental style.
The spa offers a wealth of treatments including meditation, thalassotherapy and a mud treatment based on an ancient Middle Eastern ritual where clay and steam are used to nourish skin. It also has its own restaurant and menu. In addition, 55 cabins and 12 suites on the ship have direct access to the spa.
Guests who take Samsara suites or cabins automatically receive a package of treatments which includes an invitation to a tea ceremony, personal health and fitness consultation, two meditation or fitness lessons, two treatments of choice and two solarium visits.
As well as the wellness center, other innovations on board comprise a Formula 1 driving simulator and two swimming pools with sliding glass roofs, one of which has a giant 18 m2 video screen.
