Celebrity Millennium

A ship that put an indelible mark on the year 2000

Celebrity Cruises put an indelible mark on the year 2000 by launching the 91,000-ton Millennium whose name befit the turn of the century.

But to keep her bang up date, she will be entering dry dock for in April 2012 for some of the most popular venues on the line’s widely heralded Solstice Class ships to be added.

celebrity millennium Seventy of the ship’s existing Concierge Class staterooms will be converted to Celebrity Cruises’ signature, spa-inspired AquaClass staterooms, and an additional 37 will be built.

Guests who book “Celebrity Suites” will also enjoy more time outdoors on a new veranda, as these will be added to Celebrity Millennium’s eight existing suites in this category.

It also plans to add six inside staterooms and 17 oceanview staterooms, increasing the total number of available staterooms to 1,079.

And, having been consistently ranked among the top ten large ships in the world since that time,

In May 2009, Millennium emerged from a $10million drydock refurbishment in Victoria (British Columbia) with new carpeting throughout the ship, and new upholstery in every stateroom, the Lido deck, the Celebrity Theater and the main dining room.

All marble and stone floors and counter areas were renewed, and all wood hand rails on the ship’s verandas and pool deck areas newly varnished. There was new decking across the pool deck, outdoor stage, dance floor and jogging track

Every suite was equipped with 32in LED flat-panel TVs, while every Concierge Class stateroom was given a 26in versions. New curtains, bed skirts and bed throws further enhanced every suite and stateroom.

New upholstery was added to furnishings in the ship’s retail areas, the Grand Foyer, and every lounge, including Celebrity Cruises’ signature Martini Bar.

The line chose the name Millennium for its first of four 1,950-passenger Millennium-class ships and she made her maiden voyage on June 17, 2000, out of Amsterdam.

Millennium arrived with the largest luxury suites afloat; 80 per cent of the staterooms with ocean-view, 56 percent of those with verandas. The vessel expanded upon Celebrity’s highly acclaimed signature elements, including the fleet’s museum-quality contemporary art collections, its revitalising AquaSpaTM facilities, COVA Cafe, Michael’s Club cigar lounge and the award-winning cuisine of Europe’s renowned Master Chef Michel Roux.

Continuing the evolution of the distinctive Celebrity ship profile, the Millennium-class ships were once again being crafted by prominent yacht designer Jon Bannenberg. The vessels have a powerful, lean and chiseled profile, and will exhibit a new interpretation of Celebrity’s signature stack design and hull striping.
